Chonda Pierce To Entertain Sunday
Comedienne Chonda Pierce writes her
comedy a little different than you might think.
"I come up with the end first and
then I kind of write backwards," she said.
Pierce said she tries to write comedy
into the message she wants to share with the audience.
The Christian comic has had
opportunities to turn towards secular work, but chooses to share the
Christian message in her comedy.
"As a Christian it's just kind of
ingrained in me, especially as the preacher's kid," she said.
Pierce started out by impersonating
country comedienne Minnie Pearl and slowly turned toward her own act.
That act has led to about 20 years in the comedy business.
"When you start getting a
paycheck, you say, 'I better figure out what it is I'm doing,'" she
said.
A large part of her success is due to
constant touring and numerous album, book and video releases, the most
recent the DVD/CD combo "Stayin' Alive ... Laughing!"
"(Comedians) don't have hit songs
on the radio. The only way you can promote your product or what you do is
by putting it in front of people," Pierce said.
Faith and a sense of humor go hand in
hand for Pierce, who said she finds sarcasm and wit in the lessons Jesus
teaches in the bible.
"It's hard on an audience
sometimes," she said. "I've been in some churches where I
wished they had a two drink minimum."
